High School Gang Rape Suspects Sent Home

On October 24, a young high school girl went to a homecoming dance thinking she would have the time of her life, walked away with something that she will never forget. The fifteen year old girl from Richmond Union High School went to her school’s homecoming dance with a couple friends, at one moment she was dancing and at the next she was in a dark alley behind her high school. 10 of her fellow classmates at Richmond Union High School gang raped her while 10 other students watched. A total of 20 people, and no one stopped or called the police. The young girl was sent to the hospital in critical condition and was just released recently. The case has been posponed and the suspects have been sent home due to lack of evidence. The trial is due back on January 21. The family and friends of this had a very strong yet peaceful message to the community. Instead of going to the media and bashing everything that has been going on, they wanted the community to get one message and one message only. That message was to prevent this horrific accident from happening to anyone else and that message is more powerful then any other words that could have been spoken.

The Sea of Fireflies

As I look upon the great open sea from the bow of my pirate ship, I noticed a figure in the distance. The sun was setting and the sky had an orange tint to it, so the object was hard to make out. I grabbed my steering wheel and raced the ship over to the object. As I slowly approached the object, I heard a loud thud. “What can this be?” I thought to myself.  Then when I tried pressing onward, my deck split in half. I saw a large white thing swore into the sky. A glacier, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, I wondered to myself if this was even possible.  I jumped off to my lifeboat, and sailed away from the sinking ship. As I watched the large flag on top of the mast sink away into the sea’s graveyard, I decided to find this object that my curiosity longed for.  To my surprise, a yellow ball was floating in the ocean.  I noticed fireflies were soaring around this ball, and when I reached for the ball they stopped and stared. As my fingers touched the ball, I felt a slight jolt. I pulled my hand away fast, wondering what the jolt could have been. The fireflies seemed to have made a home on my lifeboat, which was very odd. My ears caught a very raspy but quite sounds of high pitched voices. But my mind thought nothing of it. So, I reached for the ball for the second time, this time there was no jolt. The slime that dripped from my fingers had the warmest feeling. As I studied the yellow sphere, I felt something tingling my ear. A little firefly was whispering say, “MY HOME, MY HOME!”  I surely thought I was going mad, so I threw the ball as far as I could. When I turned around to start finding my way to land, something flew back and knocked me in the back of my head. From that moment on I don’t remember anything. As I slowly woke up all the way, I saw a blur image of gigantic fireflies surrounding me. I suddenly woke with a sudden jolt just like when I touched the ball, and realized i was on my ship. It must have been a dream. But when I looked out into the ocean, my ship was surrounded by a big yellow ball with fireflies flying around it.

After reading “Private Colleges and Universities”, one college really came to my attention. That college was Fordham University. Located in either the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx or Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan. This school strives off getting its students out into the work world, with kids interning at the United Nations and being mentored by hundreds of CEO’s. Fordham has one mission and one mission only, to give its students a path way to a bright and successful future.

Fordham offers over 50 different majors, with a widespread of minors also. It is also home to six graduate schools and pre-proffesional programs for its students. It large selection of majors gives the campus life a feel of diversity because everyone is into different things. For instance, Fordham offers the G.L.O.B.E program ( Global Learning opportunities and Business Experiences) which is a combined program of liberal arts and business courses that give students an international kick to things. Fordham students are also well-known for receiving prestigious scholarships. Which gives  the schools financial credit a big thumbs up.

Fordham is based in one of the greatest cities on earth , New York City. Being based in New York City, it gives students more than 2,600 job opportunities.  There is a never-ending list of things to do in the city , so you are never bored. The atmosphere of going to college in the city something everything should do, because really its like traveling the world but just standing in one city.The Rose Hill and Lincoln Center locations can give you a college experience that will never be forgotten. Thats why so many people live by ” New York is my campus , Fordham is my school.”

Fordham’s tuition is kind of pricey , but the school offers many loans and ways of finial aid. Tuition for Fordham is $35,825. Room and board is $13,716. So it’s quite the chunk of change. But it says that more than 80% of undergraduate students receive financial aid. Fordham also is home to 22 varsity sports. It is listen as NCAA Division 1. All the sports are in the Atlantic 10 conference and all sports are located at the Rose hill campus. Fordham also offers many club and intramural sports. There is always something for everyone at Fordham!

Fordham is a great school in a great environment. It is a place that not only gives you the college experience but expands it a thousand times more. From its facilities to its students, Fordham has something for everyone.  Fordham is “a place were dreams are achieved.”

Top Ten Things That Make Me Laugh

• The first thing that makes me laugh no matter what is probably my best-friend, Megan McCann. Whenever we are together, we are always laughing about something. Whether it is walking down the street with our ipods in and singing on the top of our lungs or just plain out beat each other up. We always know how to have a good time. One of the top places where we have most of our fun is at Cosco. Megan and I ride around on the cart things and get all the free food samples. We espcially love the toy aisle because we can always become five years old again.
• The second thing that makes me laugh is every minute that i am with Christine Sheridan. This girl is probably one of the funniest people I know , and when we are together we can not help but laugh until we cry.Especially know that she is on crutches, we can’t help but make a good time out of it. I have known her since i was about 5 years old , and since then I can remember every single time when we have made fools out of ourselves for laughing so hard.
• The third person who makes me laugh is probably Sam Alfieri. Now  I have met a lot of funny people in my life, but this girl is one of the funniest. Every single second she is making me laugh about something , and no matter what mood I’m in she is always putting that smile on my face. Even when she tries not to be funny sometimes, its on the level that even when she speaks it’s hysterical.
  
• The fourth thing that is always making me laugh are the Maculuso Twins. Even though i have only met these girls last year, I feel like i have known them for a lifetime. We already have so many fun and great memories but their sure are so many more to come. When ever we are all together we always have such a great time.
• The next thing that makes me laugh the most is probably Spongebob. Spongebob is a show that captured our hearts since we were little , and even though I have seen every rerun about twenty times , it is always just as funny.

Who will host the 2016 Olympics ?

Every four years, there is always one event that stops our country in its tracks but brings our country together as one. This event is led by about 150 of the United States of America’s finest and most talented athletes, who represent us against the whole world. This extraordinary event that i am talking about is the Olympics. The Olympics bring together the world and keep  peace for a short period time. It takes away our focus on the wars and the fighting, and brings it to the friendly competition of every country. But this debate is not about the Olympics , it is where they will be hosted. With ever country it is an honor to host the Olympics. The committee in Copenhagen, Denmark is having a difficult time choosing which city will host it. The four finalist are Chicago, Madrid, Rio, Tokyo.

On our home grounds, we have Chicago. To some the windy city, is a perfect place to host the 2016 games. One of the biggest points that Chicago has is its airport, O’Haire airport is a huge international airport, which would make is easy for people to travel there. Also the United States has a lot of experiences hosting the games. But the main problem of having it in one of our prized cites , is the thought and risk of terrorism.

Madrid is world renowned for its beauty , but this country never hosted the Olympics. So wouldn’t it be the perfect spot? Some say yes but others a definitely no. Cnn.com states that it is very unlikely that Madrid will host the games because it’s in the middle of the country, and the watersports would be very hard to do.

Who wouldn’t want to go to Rio ? This is the thrid choice of possibilities for the home of the games. It’s young population thrives and Rio is willing to spend the highest budget of 14.4 million dollars. But also a lot of negatives are coming out of Rio, like its to large and athletes would be living up to 50 minutes away from the competition grounds, also safety and security wouldn’t be as strong as it should be. People’s saftey is one of the most important things.

The last and final city is Tokyo,Japan. Being looked at as one of the most complex and intelligent cities in the world, Tokyo has a lot more cons on its side than pros. It would be a great place to have it because it is booming with tourism, but because it’s so crowded there will not be enough time. Also there would not be enough support from the Japanese to host them.

So who will host the 2016 olympics? No one has a clue, we just have to sit tight and wait for the answer !

Once a Gael , Always a Gael

During the beginning of my eighth grade ,  I started thinking about if Rutherford High School was the right high school for me. I knew a tone of the kids and i started to realize that it was an environment  I didn’t want to surround myself with. It wasn’t a positive place and it seemed like drama lurked behind every corner. Then , a friend brought up the idea of Saint Mary. At that moment I really started to consider it ,  I told me mom i wanted to go for freshman for a day.  I was so nervous but I knew from the moment I walked in this is where i belonged. Everyone was so friendly and all welcomed me. All the teachers had that warm feeling about them , just felt right.  Later that day , I told my mother this is where I wanted to go. My parents discussed it and they agreed that I should go to a place that I feel fits me. Choosing Saint Mary as my high school was the best choice I’ve ever made. Since I started of September 2008 , my high school experience has been great and I know it will be filled with so many more good times and memories that last a lifetime. Because once you’re a Gael , your always a Gael.
